So, we have progress. The fistula is in use for the first time. The blood flow for today’s dialysis is 180 ml/min. Up to now using the permacath in my chest it has been 300 ml/min. I am told this is normal when starting to use a fistula.
The blood is flowing out from my arm, goes round the Hæmodialysis machine, through the FX100 dialyser where it is cleaned, and then is pumped back into me.
It is a very strange feeling having my left arm so still. But, if it means I have better dialysis through safer access, it is worth it.
Stephanie the #fistulasupportbear is in attendance.
