Successful study despite the ongoing chronic illnesses

This week I learned two pieces of fantastic news from The Open University. The first was that I had passed my Classical Latin: the language of ancient Rome A276 module this year. Overall, between the ongoing work throughout the module and the exam, I got a Grade 2 pass, which is 70 and above. In the Exam itself, I found out that all my answers were marked at 70 or above, and two of them were marked 85 and above – that is a distinction.

The second piece of news was that as a result of passing a second 60-credit course at Level 2, the University has awarded me a Diploma of Higher Education Open. I love that the Open University can still do this, as it gives some encouragement along the way to Graduation. So, I am now planning for the ceremony to get gowned and hooded up, and also working out who to invite to come with me.

All of this success, is not possible without the support that I have received from many quarters: family, friends, nurses, and support staff—everyone who has asked about the module in the last few months. As one friend told me recently,

In a face-to-face Uni, it’s spoon fed to you, and you have to be a complete plank to fail. The Open [Uni] relies on your own dedication to keep going without a cohort of friends.

Private message.

I do miss having a cohort of friends at Uni. But I make up for it by having a cohort of supporters elsewhere.

And now, I have to choose what Level 3 modules to take, to get me up to the level of a BA/BSc. More of that choice in a later post.
