Gone home: Derek Wheeler

I have just heard the news (via Facebook) that Derek Wheeler, Group Scout Leader of 1st Carryduff, former County Commissioner of Belfast, former District Commissioner of South Belfast passed away earlier this morning.

Whilst I didn’t always agree with everything that he said, he was a great person to know and he led one of the training sessions that I completed as part of my Wood Badge training recently.

While Scouting in Northern Ireland has lost a great member, his family and friends have lost someone much more dear. Our thoughts must be with them at this difficult time.
