Well, it is just over a week since I started taking my new prescription. The new drug is Eviplera and it is a single tablet once a day. This is wonderful as taking three sets of meds around with you if travelling is a pain.
It’s been a bit of a culture shock though. The old meds were taken last thing at night, every night. The new ones are to be taken with a meal. Getting out of the rhythm of taking the meds as I head to bed is proving quite difficult.
We’ll see how it goes in the next few weeks, I’m sure I’ll find a way of sorting it out. But for now, I don’t want to eat right now, but Andrew is heating apple pie as we think that will count as food…
Thank you for writing this blog. Although I’m not an HIV + person, I think people need to see that it’s ok, and you can live a life. Good luck with your mentoring.
From a hoke around Google, it looks as if the guidance is to eat it with at least 500kcal. A slice of apple pie – well, it depends on the pie, but typically it seems to be about 400kcal. So make it a large slice! It appears that the absorption of the drug is reduced if taken without food.
It was a rather large slice of apple pie – but we’ll will make sure that I take my meds out with me as we head out for lunch today. Trying to take them during the day if possible.
