There is nothing so homely as coming home to the smell of freshly-baked goods. In the last few weeks Andrew has been baking and cooking more, so today it is my turn.

Chocolate cake

I knew we had flour, sugar, and butter at home, so I bought some eggs whilst in the city centre this afternoon. I came home, and got the Kenwood Chef out, with its metal bowl and K-beater. Then got the ingredients and the copy of All in the Cooking that we bought yesterday.

  • 4oz sugar
  • 4oz butter
  • 5oz flour (self-raising)
  • 2 eggs
  • flavouring (Cocoa)

Creamed the sugar and butter, added the eggs one at a time, and a little flour, then added the flour in gradually, and whisked until it as of a dropping consistency. Transferred to a pre-heated oven, 160 degress Centigrade, and baked for half-an-hour. It is now resting in the tin before being turned out.

Usually it has been Andrew doing the cooking, but perhaps I will be ok with chicken breast fillets wrapped in bacon, covered in tin foil and cooked on a baking tray in the oven. They are about to go on…
