⏳ Dialysis diaries: a day of beeps, battles, and breakthroughs

⚡ A Rollercoaster Start

Today’s session on dialysis was nothing short of a rollercoaster.

It began with the usual setup—but the machine had other plans. Alarms were firing off like a stubborn toddler refusing to nap, and we quickly pivoted from HDF to standard HD. Still, the cacophony continued, and eventually, we had to call it quits earlier than expected.

📊 The Silver Lining in the Numbers

Despite the early abandonment, the numbers weren’t too shabby: 💉 Clearance: 1.36 (against an aim of 1.2) 💧 Fluid removed: 2100ml (with a target of 2400ml)

I’ll take that as a win. Partial victory is still victory.

😤 Meltdown Moment

But truth be told, it wasn’t all metrics and medical manoeuvring. I had a bit of a moment—OK, a full-blown meltdown. At one point, I ripped off my blood pressure cuff and sent it flying across the room. Not my finest moment, but one that needed to happen. It was the only way I could make it clear I wasn’t being given a chance to respond before others jumped in. The frustration reached its boiling point, and I boiled right over.

✅ Outcome and Perspective

But here’s the thing: we got through it.

I walked out today with better numbers than expected and, somehow, a clearer head. Not every battle is pretty, but every one we fight brings us forward.

🌈 The Takeaway

Even when dialysis days go sideways—with alarms blaring, plans shifting, and emotions boiling over—there’s often a silver lining. Today proved that even a shortened session, complete with a meltdown, can still deliver meaningful results and a sense of progress. Because in this journey, perfection isn’t the goal—resilience is. And finishing 49 minutes early doesn’t mean the day was a loss. It just means it was real. And real is enough.
